Strange K181 Tale

Hi Guys,

Finally started seriously playing with an 857 I picked up two summers ago. I also have a very "smokey" frankenstein that I planned to use as a parts swapper.

The 857 has a good strong K181 on it and the frame and tin are in great shape. This tractor ran two years ago after I cleaned and kitted the carb. I had to reconnect the governer which "they" had by-passed and fix the clutch system. Long story short, I could only get this damn thing to sputter or occasionally idle for a minute.

It drove me crazy on Saturday off and on. Even swapped carbs from the running Frankenstein. I just dwelled on the fuel system because it would "pop" or idle. THEN I checked that spark. It was weak or non-exsitant. By this time, it was 7PM and time to do sh*t I should have been doing all day. Woke up Sunday morning and looked at the tractor again.

NO CONDENSER! :)

I didn't take it off of it. It had to have fallen off because it did run before. The nut on the negative side of the coil was tight though??? :hide:

I didn't think it would spark at all without a condenser. Who knows. All I know is, when I get to a point of minor frustration anymore, I'm sleeping on it. I should have seen that from the start!

:WRS: Don't beat yourself up over this. I have had stuff like that happen to me. I always try to remember that It's the little things you don.t think about checking, that can drive you crazy. :hide:
