oldnugly 2 #1 Posted May 27, 2011 I have a 42inch deck that came (dismantled) with my '74 C-100-8. There is a very good chance that a '72 Charger 10 will leap on my trailer tomorrow. The Charger has a "good running" Kohler, "strong" Hydrostat and a 36 inch deck that "needs work". I haven't seen the Charger yet. Can I use the 42inch from the C-100 with the Charger 10? I'm thinking the attachment system was changed about then but not sure. Thanks-Tom
Kelly 1,033 #2 Posted May 27, 2011 I think the 72 models have the front attachment point, for the mule drive, but I don't think they have the center lift T bar, but the factory used a long lift link, to retro fit new decks on older tractors, the center attachment point is diff. but I do believe it will work on that deck. oldnugly 2 #3 Posted May 28, 2011 Thanks Kelly. I'll bring it home tomorrow and check it out. At the price, I just gotta rescue this thing so it doesn't go to the scrap yard.
WH nut 553 #4 Posted May 28, 2011 The deck shell is the same. With a drill and some bolts you can remove the attaching hardware off the bad deck and install on the good one. I took the deck off my 1075 and with a little drill was able to fit it to my Raider 12 with the hardqare off the 12, plus added the front mule drive do I didnt have to mess with the mid drive set up. refracman 167 #5 Posted May 28, 2011 You can modifiy the deck or get the WH kit for this application or make your own. You will need the lift bar for the deck to work correctly. Heres a pic of one of my WH kits and one made for a GT14.
oldnugly 2 #6 Posted May 28, 2011 Thanks guys. I looked at it and it's now in my stable. Turns out it's a 42in. SD deck. The "problem" was that the seller had "hit something real hard" and dented the front of the sheet metal in but not enuff to interfere with the blades. Kelly, you were right. It doesn't have the mule drive like my C-series. It has an angled pulley but a different set-up. I'll look closer tomorrow and try to see why it's throwing the deck drive belt off at the clutch. Before I try it much I wanna change oil in the engine and check fluid in the Hydro. The Kohler was a little low on oil cause the P.O. checked it with the dip stick screwed fully in instead of just sitting on the block. The Hydro seems real good and there's no sign of leakage or other problems. Tom
