Irv 115 #1 Posted May 27, 2011 I have a 42" sd deck that cuts well but is really noisey. It came on a fairly neglected 312-8 that I bought and other than that is in nice shape. I'm thinking about new bearings for the spindles which I've never done. There doesn't seem to be any play in them at all. Do you guys think that just the new bearings should be enough (unless the spindle shafts look really bad) to quiet it down? thanks for any help.
daveoman1966 3,839 #2 Posted May 27, 2011 Check the belt idler pulley....usually the 1st to go. Loosen the belt and check the 2 pulleys in the front mule drive too... If not there, then inspect the spindle bearings. need parts.... I have good replacements, some are new. my email is: daveoman@windstream.net.
Irv 115 #3 Posted May 27, 2011 Thanks Dave. I know the mule drive is ok but I'll check out the idler.
