Techy carb leak

Recommended Posts

Trouty56

Have a techy HH100 with what looks to be a Walbro carb. I started it up today and shortly thereafter a small leak appeared from a small hole in the side. It is to the right of the idle mixture screw directly below the idle set screw. What could have caused it?? :hide: It leaking like it was taking a leak...a small stream. lol

Bob, I have a HH120 in my Raider and I was hoping that I would be able to help you with this but the carb on mine is different than yours, I think mine is a Carter. Mine does not have the hole (on the side nor above it on the upper surface) where yours does and on mine there is a welch plug on the side of the carb also. If I was to guess (and I strongly emphasize the word guess) it sounds to me like one of those instances where they drilled the orifice and galleys and then plug the unneeded openings thru the side of the carb body with something like a small ball bearing then stake it in. If this is the case possibly the bearing somehow popped out and you could find an appropriate size bearing to replace the lost one and stake it in. As I said Im just speculating here, if my carb was the same as yours Id be able to check it and know for sure. Im sure someone will have a positive answer and clear this up for you.

Strictly a shot in the dark, But could your float be stuck open. I think that is the bowl vent, Is the engine running rich or trying to flood out?

Good thinking, makes a lot of sense, definitely first thing to check. There's times when I look too deep and make things more complicated than need be.

You know it did sound like it was flooding out. It started and ran good then started coughing and I saw the puddle forming, shut it down, and saw the carb leaking. It hasn't been run for a month or so. I'll check it out....

Thanks guys....

But could your float be stuck open.

Easy place to start. Also, it might be closing, but not sealing all the way. (But I don't think that would "leak"...more like a "dribble") :hide:

the main jet seal might be messed up and when the float pushes it up it doesent seal and there for fuel can keep coming in threw and it will fill up and pour out of the vent. Or the piviot pin for the float is a little rusty and it cant completely close because it cant piviot all the way. i have seen all of these. i can probly get you a kit for it if you give me the carb model. :hide:

The float is full of gas. NAPA has one....part 7-07074. I'll have to see if it will work. You guys were on the right track. Thanks a bunch!!! :hide:

All the floats I found were not large enough or the center hole not big enough. So I soldered it. It would have been easier to get the gas out if there were only one hole. My way was a little scarey. There is a trick to soldering it but I caught on quickly after about the 15th try. Eventually it passed the leak test and is in and running. :hide: I'm surprised it still floated after all the solder I used...haha.
