wallfish 15,972 #1 Posted May 25, 2011 My father did his first small engine rebuild on a 1972 K241 and had some trouble getting it going. It would start easily but would not throttle up past a low idle at all. Since the carb is new, we suspected the timing was off. He went through the timing today and says he has it running nice but he had to gap the points at .029. He also said that it sometimes back fires when throttling down. I'm thinking the cam is off one tooth. Could there be any other causes for this situation?
