c175inMA 8 #1 Posted May 25, 2011 Hi all. I was thinking of making a bagger for my 48" deck. I have the part that attaches to the deck(not one with the belt driven blower). Has anyone built one before? I was thinking of buying an old bagger from a lawn tractor and attaching it to the back. Do you think that the mower would have enough ummph to push the grass up the tube? Would adding a tab to the blade help blow it up the tube? Any in put would be appreciated. in advance
smoreau 658 #2 Posted May 25, 2011 I'm in about the same boat as you are with my 42" deck. I have the back and the tube, but not the part that connects to the deck. it came with thew wings for the right blade but the wrong deck attachment. I'm thinking on the wider decks you need the blower that is belt driven to work right, Would like to figure out something before fall.
shorts 182 #3 Posted May 25, 2011 I'm thinking 6"pvc sewer pipe for the tube and square plastic trash cans for the bags, fab up a rearmount bracket and use a large piece of fine mesh hardware cloth on the far side of the lid assembly to let the air out. the wife's huskvarna bagger uses hard plastic tube and lid with perforated bags and it does a decent job on oakleaves in the fall but we still hand rake for spring cleanup. I have a belt drive power bagger and 48" deck to restore on the project list, and i borrowed the new 6.5 briggs from the homeade tracvac for the troybilt tiller, it also required hand rake spring cleanup. The neighbor uses a pull behind sweeper that seems to work better than the baggers for less $ invested
