Clarkbug 0 #1 Posted May 24, 2011 Hi All. Some of you might have looked at the topic I posted a few weeks back where I found a 210-5 on Craigslist for $60. (Yeah, I never got the pics of it, sorry about that). After buying a new battery, and some general tune up/tinkering/carb cleaning, I got the 10 HP Briggs running like a top. After that, I got the clutch and drive belts adjusted, and we were off to the races. The intent of all of this was so that I could fix up this mower to give to my brother, who has been mowing his 1.5 acres with a push mower. With all of the rain and a recent change in his schedule, he just didnt have the time for that, so I wanted to help him out. This seemed like the best way I could. But the problem I created is that I let my wife drive his ! She hadnt ever mowed the lawn before, so I showed her how to use that one (really simple, one pedal, only 5 gears, easy on/off for the mower deck) and she helped me with our lawn this weekend. I did half with the C-120 and she did the other. Now she wants one just like it, since she thinks it will be a good time saver, and she likes how simple and easy that was to drive. I guess thats always good when the wife wants more horses in the stable, right? So on that note, I know the vertical shaft tractors arent very collectible, and they arent as rugged as the rest of the series, they are just good grass cutters. But if anyone here sees one or has one they want to get rid of, please let me know!

Clarkbug 0 #4 Posted May 24, 2011 I know that Ill never get them figured out! The only problem is that now I cant convince her that mowing the lawn is hard work! :hide:
145Automatic 7 #5 Posted May 25, 2011 Hey, the wife and mowing falls into a domain thing at our house. The washer and dryer are her domain, and she guards it well. The mowing is my domain. I too have her conviced its hard work. However, we do test the boundries of each others domain just to show respect to the others superority in thier domain. Example: I do the laundry and "accidently" leave the close in the dryer untill they wrinkle. She "unknowingly" puts the the cut hight at minimum and scalps the yard. Then we return to our own domains. Seriously I have purchased a 264H recently for mowing ease just incase I am unable to. More about that "modern" mower later. My mother used to have a 200 series with a Kawasaki engine. It was a fine mowing machine. I've seen a few on the CL.
squonk 43,916 #6 Posted May 26, 2011 My 90 210-H is all original from the day I bought it except for plugs, air filter, belts and seat. It's got 760 hours on it and it starts every time and is getting quite a workout with the rain this year. It plow snow too and I even have an old Allis-Chalmers snowblower that I use on it. Plus it was lots easier to adjust the clutch and drive belt with her helping push the pedals for me! She did a pretty good job on the lawn once she got the hang of it, and then she helped me load up the mower and drive it down the road. At least she got her first lawn mowing experience on a ! Now she is OK with the herd growing somewhat, which is always good news to hear.... Now just to find the right one.
145Automatic 7 #8 Posted May 26, 2011 If your wife is OK with a growing heard then your doing good. My hats off to you Clarkbug. I've got it pretty good too, cause my wife is willing to help in the garage when I need it, and she bakes a pretty mean Mississippi Mud Cake.
jpmcleod 4 #9 Posted May 26, 2011 My wife has her own tractor and no one messes with it. I used it the other day to pull mine out of the ditch and she made me wash it. I used to hunt without her and now she has her own gun and goes all the time. What next?. I don't do laundry anymore after I mixed my blue jeans with her white cloths (to save water) and now they are pink. Gotta love those women on tractors.
