BPjunk 184 #1 Posted May 23, 2011 Well it may look like a lynching but it ain't ..... I've been working on my trailer when free time comes up and came up with this small crane for working on the Wheel Horses. I came across a pick up truck crane at the local flea market for 10 bucks, it was missing the base, the winch worked so so and the cable was incorrectly routed ...... but for $10.00 it was not going home in some one elses car ! A 4 foot section of 3 inch pipe was welded to a 3/16 plate on the frame of the trailer and then the pipe ran through a second plate that was welded to the top rail. Some holes were drilled in the top of the pipe so the crane can pivot around or be pinned in one direction when in use. The hydraulic jack lifts the arm up whilst the winch picks up the load. The winch was on the front of the trailer and now has been replaced with a UT- 3000 lbs Superwinch (the UT-3000 Superwinch was made in China and I would not have bought if I knew that). A Tuff Tug ****** block and Crosby 1 ton hook complete the winch. This crane set up has a lift capcity of 1,000 lbs depending on the lenth of the crane arm. After the first try at lifting a model 552 with snow plow I found the trailer would tilt over so a 1,000 lbs trailer jack was bolted to the side of the trailer for support when lifting. For the test I wrapped a 1/4 chain around the front axle of the 552 then jacked the arm up and winch the 552 right off the ground.
