Mower Blade "lift" question

Recommended Posts

WheelHorse_of_course

Well, the 2011 mowing season has begun. For the first year in some time, no major modifications or repairs where necessary to my deck.

My 1969 36 inch side discharge deck has the "double d" style blades (e.g. the holes) which are getting somewhat hard to find.

I picked up some on ebay that are identical but have a lower angle where the back of the tip is bent up.

I guess the replacements are "low lift" versus the normal "high lift" blades. ISTR the low lifts are primarily for areas with sandy abrasive soil.

Can anyone fill me in on what I can expect in terms of cut quality between these two types of blades?

It is too early for me to make a definitive judgement since I have only mowed the lawn twice this year and both times the grass got longer than ideal. My gut reaction is the new blades cut worse than the old ones (e.g occasional missed blades in the tire track area).

If someone needs the "special" low lift blades I would be willing to swap them for the normal type.

Another question. Has anyone sourced gator blades for these older 36 inch dual D spindled decks? If so, please share this info.

thanks
