PTO pump makes terrible noise under load

Recommended Posts

rodco

I have a c-161 with an ARK loader. It has been running fine, but recently there is a terrible ratcheting/ clicking noise when ever I put a load on the bucket hydralics. As soon as I let go of the control it stops.

I am wondering if it the the PTO pully? the pully on the pump or maybe a bearing.

Anyone familiar with this?

I admit I have been using the loader a lot recently. The loader has also done more work in its lifetime than it was ever designed for .

Thanks

Robert

Don't have a loader at this time , BUT , I would look at any key, thats, woodruf or square key set up on a shaft with a pulley or gear ,. Think you will find a set screw or a worn loose key ... hope this helps !!!

check your fluid level for the pump. If its cavitating with air in it it will make a nasty noise when under load.

Check the belt for glazing. My loader did the some thing and all it was is a smoothed worn out belt. found out to that that pulley is not available anywhere! The only way to get a 9/16 bore pulley is a 2 piece cast iron ($50) so be careful if you are going to take it apart!

I took the pully off the engine and checked it out, greased the needle bearing and reinstalled it. I also checked the tightness of the pully on the pump and its fine.

I am wondering if it could be the insides of the pump.

Is the pump rebuildable? replacable?

Thanks

Ok..Problem solved..I hope!

I replaced the belt and it really tightened things up. It runs and lifts things great now. I just hope that was the issue.

Thanks
