fdsinozich 1 #1 Posted May 12, 2011 I have a 1974 C120 Automatic 1-0495. I replaced the drive belt and the idler lever won't stay down when operating the tractor. Is it supposed to lock down someway? Or is the belt too short? I used a 5/8" X 84" belt. Thanks, Frank
fdsinozich 1 #2 Posted May 12, 2011 I took the belt off and the idler goes down and is secure in place. The belt is obviously too short but the 7478 is 5/8" x 84" which is what I put on it. Now what?? :)

WH854 45 #4 Posted May 12, 2011 Here is a picture of My c-165 drive belt routing, there is a spring that holds the idler down. Here is another one Hope this will Help!! Chas
Giles 2 #5 Posted May 12, 2011 Don't know if there is a difference but my c175 looks quite similar to yours and I use a B-83 belt. From the photos, the belt seems to be just about 1 inch too long. Can you measure the old belt?
fdsinozich 1 #6 Posted May 12, 2011 I purchased a longer belt, 5/8" X 85" and it is perfect. PROBLEM SOLVED!! Thanks to all. Frank

Can you measure the old belt? I don't have the old belt But here is what I use on my 2 Cs P/N 7473 Drive belt for C-85 C-105 C-125 C- 145 C-165 P/N 7466 Engine Drive pulley for C-105 C-125 C-145 C-165 C-175 I don't know what a B-83 belt is Chas
Giles 2 #8 Posted May 12, 2011 A B-83 belt is 5/8 X 83". It is a "Gates" belt and I have used them for about 28 years (Not the same belt) of course, but one usually last for about four or five years. If you look at your top photo, there is a guide plate that the bottom of your belt sometimes contacts, or rubs. That is there to help guide the belt by preventing too much flop. When the belt is tight, you should have about 3/8" to 1/2" clearance between the flat plate and belt bottom. A shorter belt would acomplish this because, in the photo, the belt is held up by the plate--belt is too long. Remember---I am talking about my C175. Yours could be different :hide:
