SNYFIX 13 #26 Posted May 13, 2011 The valves/muffler baffle is good suggestion. What about the tensioner box (some call it the mule drive ??) pulleys ?? Perhaps there's a problem there.
buckrancher 2,679 #27 Posted May 13, 2011 OK -- Now I am concerned and am going to show my lack of mechanical smarts -- I have never checked points on my 310-8 and never seen anything in my owners book about doing such -- My engine is a Magnum (tractor has a 1990 made date) -- Does my 10 horse Kohler have points?? -- And if it does (now the real stupid question) where are they?? no you have a magnitio setup no points
HankB 16 #28 Posted May 13, 2011 I have never checked points on my 310-8 and never seen anything in my owners book about doing such -- My engine is a Magnum (tractor has a 1990 made date) -- Does my 10 horse Kohler have points?? I don't think the Magnum's have points, at least not the ones WH used for the 3/4/5xx tractors. The older ones used points or electronic ignition depending. And the older you go, the more likely the engine may have been converted to points or swapped. My '85 312-8 has the large coil which indicates points and my son's '69 Electro 12 has the little coil that means no points. Of course I could be displaying my ignorance as well so someone correct me if I'm wrong.
