MaineDad 87 #1 Posted May 27, 2008 Hey guys, My next door neighbor has a C-145 8 speed with some transmission noise. I have not had a chance to look at it yet, but I can hear it all the way to my house. It almost has a dragging whining type sound, not a grinding sound. It does move in all gears and he says the gear oil is full. He did say that it once in a while will pop out of low and it to some nuetral position. I know there is no real nuetral position between high and low but maybe the set screw on the low range shifter is loose? Maybe the shifting forks? What would you all recommend I look for when I get the chance to diagnose the problem?
rocking 416 1 #2 Posted May 27, 2008 sounds like the set screw on the pulley on the side of the trans case could be loose , i recently torn down my 8 speed they are very simple the hubs are kinda of a pain if you do not have air tools an decent puller , an 6 point sockets decent work bench . id check out the simple stuff first ,
baerpath 517 #3 Posted May 27, 2008 First thing I would do is take a look at the brake band. Sounds like it maybe do for one Duane As far as the popping out of low range WHO uses low range No set screw there only a roll pin in the shifter for the high low. If you shift the high low while moving you could have bent a fork. That a tear down item
