can whlvr 994 #1 Posted May 6, 2011 so i got this 1989 414-8 for 50 bucks with a really good 42 side discharge,he wanted 200 on the phone, got there and i saw a wreck in the driveway,i said its only worth scrap metal, ill give you 50 and i take it home,it had no compression wouldnt turn over with the starter and he said it had spark when he got it.so i took the head off, cleaned all the gum out and now ton of compression, tear the strarter and carb and fuel pump and gas tank clean all put together run a direct wire to starter and she fires right up,changed iol 3 time,3 tranny flush, hook up all electrical which is in great shape,go figure, and she run great,it got 4 great tires a really good deck and ill rebuild her next year, just going to use it as a beater for now

can whlvr 994 #15 Posted May 11, 2011 well here is a pic of the tractor one week from when i got it,the wife was pleased with it but i will cut the grass with it,i want to save my others,i think cutting grass is the hardest thing on these machines, lots of dust at my place,i had almost every thing in stock to gether this way,so far no money spent(other than the 50),but i do have a list, got free spindle bearings from my local rental shop, they had lots of these bearings and never sold any,im going to purchase the rest for 20 bucks, enough to do 2 more decks, the deck is like brand new,i actually have another deck that i completely rebuilt, new everything, every bolt but never used it yet,my others are real nice too but dont have brand new bearings, well here she is

stevasaurus 23,292 #18 Posted May 11, 2011 Terrific looking tractor Don. I remember when my dad bought a lawnmower for my mom on her birthday some fifty years ago. I still have to listen to her rant about it once in a while. and my dad has been gone for almost ten years. They never forget when you mess up. :WRS:
Irv 115 #19 Posted May 11, 2011 Nice score and great quick refinish Don. Can't beat those kind of deals, that's how l got my 314-8. Hadn't run in 3 yrs. and he couldn't get it running. Gave $100, got it home, new gas and tightened a loose fuse and it was running. Sold the 36" blower I got with it for $100. Also came with a nice 37" rd deck. :hide:
