Road Trip To Marquette Michigan for a 1054

Went on a long road trip to Marquette, Michigan to pu a 1054 It was a 530 mile ride from Niles, Mich 10 miles north of South Bend. I figured this Horse has been up north for way to long and it was time to come back home! :WRS:

To make a long story short, the gent "JACK" that had this Horse was the Undersheriff for Marquette County. I work for Berrien County Sheriffs Department as mechanical systems manager. When he found that out and my dedication to the Horses he gave me the tractor for free...... Well not exactly It costed me dinner for him and his wife and a whole bunch of Gas at $ 4.00 plus buckaroo's per gallon. and Motel accomidations.

Anyways The wife and I had a great time and our new found friends were Great Hosts and after loading up the 1054, And Wheel Horse Cart and complete Lawn Sweeper attachment we had a grand tour of Marquette. That alone was worth the trip! The tractor was a bonus... I will tell you Ive spent more and got a whole lot less!

The weather was perfect so we had a nice trip. The last time I had been to Marquette with my wife well it was 26 years ago on a camping trip, and to be honest we believe that where our oldest daughter was created! :D This was kinda one of those dejavue trips! :D ya know the kind that gets the wife all juiced up and interested in the "Round Hoods" Let me tell ya fellas ya got to get the wife involved in this hobby it sure helps! She sure supports me in this and these road trips we take together seeing the sites sure helps the marriage. Now she helps me look for these Horses! We both are looking forward to our first trip To PA this year

hope to see you all there!

Ill post my 1054 pics in the photo section tomarrow

Sounds like someone got double lucky! :D:D:WRS::D:D

I also have a few pre '65 'Horses, although now I don't know if I can still use the term "round hood". :dunno: I have a 1054a and I like it a lot. :D

I'm retired from the Lexington, Ky. police dept. I have made the trip to Lansing in mid sept. for the MSP annual new cruiser evaluations several times, with the last trip in 2000 for the '01s. Very interesting weekend trip if you get the chance to do it. The MSP precision driving team gets paid to spend a weekend pushing brand new vehicles past their design limits. Where else will you see a Volvo staton wagon go past you, twenty feet away, at 147 mph? They use the Chrysler proving grounds outside Jackson for a day and used to use the Michigan speedway in Brooklyn for the second, but in 2000 switched to the bike track in Gratton.

Duke we haven't met yet & hope next time I get to Niles & visit Ty we'll cross paths.

Marquette is a long haul for a Horse...but then the trip alone is priceless

I don't know that my wife is supportive of my hobby...but she is tolerant...some days more than others.

I'll admit I have been on some long trips to retrieve stray Horses from OH

My Ford V10 keeps me close to home anymore when my wallet screams Ranger. :WRS:

Our long distance Horse hunting has been cut WAY down thanks to fuel prices. We've done some long ones, but these days I'm sticking close to home. It helps that I'm running out of space!

Stephen, at least your not fueling an oil burner! I'm starting to wish I had the V10 instead of my Powerstroke. I saw $5.04 a gallon for diesel this weekend at a station near the campground we stayed at!

Tickster: Yer going to The P.A. show right? :D I thought you mentioned that. Yeah stop by Ty's Maybe we can hook up. We are planning that Wal-Mart thingy still in August and would like us to do the Apple Festival Parade In Niles this fall. Yeah the trips are comming to a close for me also.

DMESS: Yep I know what you mean I started this hobby last may about a year ago I have been To NC last fall to pick up a suburban I got on flee bay. Went to Des Moines Iowa last month for a 56 RJ Pond and a 551 plus picked up a sickle bar mower and a 3 Gang Reel Mower while there. Now this last trip to Marquette I guess I have been a busy beaver. :D

Our last trip will be to PA in three weeks that will just about wrap it up for us this year. I have alot of horses to restore and fix up so I will be concentrating on that.

Cheers To All Duke :dunno:
