That's why I stay away from their site when I can - or at least verify their information against a reputable source.

But......... When in doubt, call your friendly neighborhood Toro/WH dealer.

My current favorite is PartsTree.com, but a lot of other online suppliers have good diagrams.

Just to make sure, you are talking about the belt that connects the engine and transmission drive pulleys (as opposed to the mower drive belt), correct? And your transmission has 2 ranges, each with 3 forward gears and reverse? If so, the #7473 is correct.

lillbiker,

Your questions would have been easier to answer if you had kept them all in one thread ... just a thought. :wh:

The Toro web site lists the following manuals for a 1985 310-8:

Operator's manual -- 810372R1

Parts catalog -- 810386R1

I don't have copies, but the 1986 operator's manual is similar, here's a link -- just be aware the wiring diagrams aren't the same, and there's probably other differences as well:

http://www.mywheelhorse.com/graphics/file/...OM_810437R1.pdf

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, it's been a couple of years since I had to replace my drive belt, and I don't have my tractor in front of me right now (it being after 2:00 in the morning -- what the heck am I doing up? ).

The best way to describe how to install your drive belt is to have you look at the diagram in the link that c175inMA gave you. You'll have to remove the belt guard on the right side of the tractor to get access (just a few bolts and screws to remove). The belt goes around both the engine and transmission drive pulleys.

What doesn't show in that diagram is that there's another pulley in between those two, just above and forward of the transmission pulley. It's an idler pulley for the clutch, and it's mounted to an arm that should be pointing up (the pulley mounts near the top of that arm). That pulley shows as part 42 if you click on "Clutch, Brake and Speed Control Linkage" in c175inMA's link.

Make sure the idler pulley is turning freely without too much noise, and check the mounting bolt. If I remember correctly, you can mount the belt over the engine and transmission pulleys, and then rotate the idler pulley arm forward and down to slip the belt over the top of that pulley (be careful you don't pinch your fingers). If you have a helper, have them push the clutch pedal down, that will move the idler pulley the same way.

I know I've left out an important detail, which is how to loop the belt over the engine pulley -- I believe you have to start with removing the locking pin at the end of that whole pulley assembly, and it's probably obvious once you look at it, I just don't remember right now.

Anybody, feel free to fill in the details, I'll check in again later in the day.

Hope that helps.

If you want to go Kevlar, the # 7473 belt is 5/8" x 82" long.

Tractor supply has them, if you don't have a Toro WH source close by.

My 2 cents.... :wh:

I will tell you from experience, the blue belts from TSC , don't work as drive belts very good, I've put two on, they will not slip like a Toro belt when you push the clutch pedal in, so your always grinding gears or pushing the pedal for a few min. till the belt stops, spend the $30 and buy a Toro/Wheelhorse belt.
