A Horse is meant to WORK not sit and look pretty

Recommended Posts

As pretty as it is, the C-160 has to work. It didn't roll off the assembly line ready to sit in a show room and not get dirty, and this one ain't gonna either. The deck that it is supposed to have is in process of getting restored, but I couldn't wait any longer. I took the 42" SD off the 414 and put it on the C-160 and went to work. Brittany was kind enough to work the camera for us....

What a pleasure to drive and mow with. Much, much nicer than the 414 and almost as nice as the 416, but it loved what it was doing. Purred along running great the entire time!

Absolutely beautiful, Karl! Snortin' & Gallopin' right along - like it was meant to do. :D

So tell me..... did the grass shooting out of that deck possess powers similar to the Fountain of Youth? :WRS:

C-Series14

You know, I have been mowing a long time. I have mowed with just about every brand. The best was of course a 1976 C-160 8-speed. It is so amazing to some folks that see me mowing on my 1979 C-141 8-speed that it is that old. I have seen neighbors go thru several mowers over the years and to think if I had this tractor since it was new, I would of saved some money on tractors! I have been mowing with it for several years now, just jump on it, start it, and mow. It is all original except for the rear tires, got to have Ag's on a WH! I would love to restore it but it mows soooooo good!

Nice looking C-160 Karl, it brings back memories of my first WH in 1976.....maybe I need to get one some day!

Karl,

I love the last photo with the grassy tires and the grass shooting out of the discharge chute. Very nice, indeed.

Brittany got yelled at for that last picture too, she had gotten a little to close to the discharge chute for my liking. For what ever reason, the deck sounds quieter on the 160 than on the 414 :WRS: One thing is for certain, the 16 HP Kohler K is stronger than the 14 HP Magnum on the 414. The C plowed right through the taller grass where the 414 would slow a little.

Good point, Karl, on her getting too close to the discharge chute. Even though it's a good shot, nothing's worth the compromise in safety.

Sweet!!!/ squared. The second picture loaded here first. For a moment I thought you had mounted a stack with a light on it. Great for late night mowing. Just kidding. Great shots, great looking tractor, glad you're having fun.

Nice tractor Karl! I wish I had a large lawn to mow and test out my stuff how much lawn do you have there to mow? The only add on equipmet the tractor is missing is a drink holder!

Cheers Duke

She may not realize it, but in those pictures Brittany has captured the reason we spend so many hours cleaning, welding, sanding and spraying the rusty ones. In the late fifties/early sixties WH advertised their products turned work into fun. Still true today!

And the wheels look great!

Karl those are great pics....back up to 1974 & that would have been the sale's brochure front page pic right there.

Glad to see it's pulling that 42" deck too...it's going to toy with the 36" :D deck when it's on there.

It's been just as rewarding for us on Red Square watching you finish her up as much as seeing the pic of you getting your first look at Eldons place. :WRS:

I'll echo what tickster said. This has been a rewarding and pleasurable story and adventure.

It must have been like taking a new car out for the first time hoping it doesn't get scratched!

Great pictures!

Karl,

Great pics. Your daughter does quite well with the camera. Good framing. Some kids would take a picture and lop of your head.

One question. Is the seat all the way back? You look like you are driving a short frame Wheel Horse like an old Raider.

I wish I had a large lawn to mow and test out my stuff how much lawn do you have there to mow?

There's about 1 acre to mow and another 1 1/2 which is wooded.

One question. Is the seat all the way back? You look like you are driving a short frame Wheel Horse like an old Raider.

I think that the seat can go back more, but I am letting the kids drive this one and they need the seat forward. It does look a little small doesn't it?

I like it!

But some of us could have some made that say,

All my other tractors are Wheel Horses too!

Karl, it looks like 1974 all over again. Very cool! Of course, you probably looked a bit younger then. :WRS: These horses age better than we do!
