You're using Photobucket, right?

You can get into your folder there and edit your photos, you should resize anything you want to display here to be no larger than 640x480 (smaller, I think something like 100x150 for your avatar and signature photos).

OR

BEFORE you upload photos, you can specify how large you want your saved files to be -- there's something like an "upload options" link there, you'll have to look carefully near the bottom of the upload page to find it, it's in small print.

I can't help you much more than that right now, but I can probably help more tomorrow if you're still having problems.
