hcminis 1,700 #1 Posted April 19, 2011 Sorry for the delay. Yesterday was my birthday and wife calls to let me know someone just dropped off a mower in the driveway. Thought, "who would be doing that"? So, being the great wife she is, said "I'll go take a picture for you". Well, the guy that I purchased the C-160 from delivered it on my birthday and didn't even know it was my birthday. So, got home and did a little playing around. Cleaned old gas out and replaced with some new. Pulled the gas line off pump to make sure it was pumping gas to carb. and it was. Shot some carburetor cleaner in and fired right up. This thing has been sitting for over a year now. Couldn't believe it. Does need a good cleaning but otherwise not bad. Oil looked like it was a recent change. Now, the bad...someone (previous owner) messed up one of the frame to transmission bolts and tried to re-tap it. Don't have a clue what all happened there. Not really that concerned right now because I do have another parts tractor that is only missing the engine. The parts C-160 has a great transmission from what the po told me. Plus, has the front head light assembly. However, will try to fix the bolt that is on there now first. Now the frustrating part. The tractor moves fine but since I'm not familiar with hydros, there is a short handle that engages the belt. This short handle has a spring I can see from the top that is just hanging. So, I know the guard needs removed to see what all is going wrong in there. Anyone have pictures or the owners manual for this beast? Previous owner told me this handle had to be held down in order for the tractor to move. I am sure that is the problem he had and reason for buying a Dixie Chopper. Had no clue what he was talking about since I have never owned a hydro. So, I'm sure it is suppose to lock down and when the pedal is pushed will spring back which it does. Just won't stay engaged or whatever it is suppose to do. Pictures....I know everyone wants.

hcminis 1,700 #7 Posted April 19, 2011 Heath, thanks for pointing that out. Will check this evening if it hasn't floated away. Getting enough rain here to last the rest of the year. Guess I can only hope the parts tractor has a good frame. If not, then will be doing some frame repair. For what I paid for this beast, I'm willing to do it. racinfool40 203 #11 Posted April 19, 2011 The spring that is hanging should hook to the brake shaft assm.Arm check in front of and a little below your hydro filter and see if there is an arm with a hole in the end.. the spring should be attached to that arm. When pulled up it should engage the parking brake pawl in side the tranny. once you pull the belt guard off you should see everything you need.. Tried looking for a good pic but didn't find one!!! Hope some one out there has a good pic!!

hcminis 1,700 #13 Posted April 20, 2011 Thank you Mike for the link. Ed also sent me a picture of his tractor. Was able to get the belt guard off and the spring is just hanging there. Will try to fix it this evening. Yes, there is a small crack in the frame where it attaches to the transmission. However, appears to have been welded already. Previous owner did say he had to take the ole girl to a Wheel Horse dealer and have the transmission rebuilt. Not even gonna tell you what he did. Even with those little problems which can be fixed, this thing is a BEAST! When used correctly as a Garden Tractor and NOT as a D9 CAT Dozer it will last a long long time. Hopefully the C-160 Parts Tractor I have will allow me to get one good tractor and probably do a quick repaint. Want to actually use the monster around the yard. Thanks again for the compliments and help. Always count on this board for GREAT help.
