cheesegrader 433 #1 Posted April 18, 2011 Thanks for all the great advice so far. I have been reading for a month, preparing to buy a GT-1142, but that deal fell through. Three days later I stumbled across a 520h only 10 miles from home! Advertised as a 1994, serial number 1032376 makes me think it is a 1991. Comes with: 48"deck 46" 2-stage snowthrower, tire chains 36" tiller (broken mid-mount pulley tensioner) 50" blade (missing lift handle and linkages) and a 42" deck and single stage thrower that I have to pick up when the road to the back shed is dry. I will post pictures when the blizzard ends. 6" of snow on 17 April! The model # on the tiller was taken off by a spot weld. I assume it is 1991, and have a partial serial # (xx900177). Any ideas? How hard is it to find a blade handle? Should I just plan to fab my own? Sorry that I have more questions than answers at this stage.

farmer 1,078 #11 Posted April 18, 2011 :wh: Cheesegrader, Sounds like you've got your adventure off to a flying start, a 520 with all those goodies. You'll get to know the drill....
stevasaurus 23,291 #13 Posted April 18, 2011 :wh: Depending on where you are at in the UP...you may want to come to the show in LaSueur, Minn. the last weekend of Aug. About 1 hour south/west of the Twin Cities. Check out the pictures in the Shows Section.
cheesegrader 433 #14 Posted April 19, 2011 More snow in the U.P. this week. Looks like I need to put the snowthrower BACK on! Here is the first attempt at importing from Photobucket The footrests need work. Wheelbearing made some nice ones last year, but none for sale. I need smething non-skid. The original painted surface seems awfully slick for snowboots in the winter! I'll have to think about this.
Kelly 1,033 #15 Posted April 19, 2011 The foot rest on that should have had rubber mats covering them, but think about spray on bed liner, and put it on ruff, maybe even mix a bit of sand in it for traction.
farmer 1,078 #16 Posted April 19, 2011 Cheesegrader, I thought I'd put this picture up as another idea for your running boards, ok it needs paint, but it works very well... snow or soil just falls through. You can really clean your boots off and you won't slip on it . The material is off cuts I had from a cat walk I made.

cheesegrader 433 #18 Posted April 19, 2011 Thanks so much for the replies. Kelly and farmer, I like both ideas, but the ability to drain is very appealing. Farmer, did you bolt through that, or did you have to weld the mesh on? Like most Youpers, I am not small. I would hate for my next photobucket post to be of my ankle through that hole! farmer 1,078 #19 Posted April 19, 2011 :wh: Wheel Horse bear trap. Mine is welded on, something else will break before those welds let go Its also a good place to keep your tow pin.
Lane Ranger 11,411 #20 Posted April 19, 2011 Cheesegrader: Sounds like you got the full meal deal on your first wheel horse. No need to buy the second one for a while yet... Congratulations and welcome to Red Square!!
