kj4kicks 154 #1 Posted May 22, 2008 Karl has been busy making his new C160 better all the time. As for his old C120, well..... Warning: The following images may be disturbing to some viewers. Remember, this is just phase one, and it will be back better than ever:

linen beige 15 #3 Posted May 22, 2008 . Remember, this is just phase one, and it will be back better than ever: If any one can do it, you can. Now get off here and get at it! But keep us posted, we wanna watch.
TT-(Moderator) 1,162 #4 Posted May 22, 2008 Nice PILE! What's up with the extra hole in the rear fender, Eldon? Rear lift bellcrank access? Also keep in mind when you rebuild the engine -- balancer gears make good fishing line sinkers. :D
kj4kicks 154 #5 Posted May 22, 2008 Nice PILE! What's up with the extra hole in the rear fender, Eldon? Rear lift bellcrank access? Also keep in mind when you rebuild the engine -- balancer gears make good fishing line sinkers. Good thing I have a spare fender on my pile ! Not sure if it was to access the bellcrank, or the hydro dipstick while an accessory was attached? Maybe we'll rebuild that Kohler next weekend... LOL ! kj4kicks 154 #9 Posted May 23, 2008 Thanks guys! Started disassembling the engine tonight. Found a couple things that might make noise. The stub shaft for the PTO is badly pitted, and the balance gears wobble on their shafts. No problem there, because they are not going back in. Popped the piston out, but didn't mic anything. The rod has a small score mark on it, with a matching one on the crank. Lots of carbon around the rings. Looks like this one is going to get bored, and new rod, and the crank turned. Stephen, if there's room on the trailer, bring one along in. You can pick it up next year LOL.
nylyon-(Admin) 7,882 #10 Posted May 23, 2008 Maybe it was the balance gears wobbling in there making the noise not a rod knock? Either way with the score in the crank best to turn it.
kj4kicks 154 #11 Posted May 23, 2008 Maybe it was the balance gears wobbling in there making the noise not a rod knock? Either way with the score in the crank best to turn it. That may well be the problem, but since I'm in there anyhow, and it was a smoker.... Anyhow, I didn't run it after it got here, so I never heard the noise. Also degreased the hydro today, and was going to pull the wheels to get them blasted. Wow, don't know what kind they are, but they sure aren't WH. Good thing I have a spare set ! I was able to save all the decals. TD doesn't know it yet, but they are heading his way. Tuesday everything goes to get blasted, then the fun begins when I get back from NAMA. Duff 206 #12 Posted May 24, 2008 Warning: The following images may be disturbing to some viewers. Disturbing? Nope - almost brought tears to my eyes! That is what my 312-8 looked like after I stripped it for restoration this past winter. Brought back fond memories of many, many hours in the workshop with the wood stove cranked while the snow flew outside, sanding, cleaning and straightening all those parts....and becoming more hooked by the minute on Horses as I learned just how well built they are. Thanks for the memories.....and pushing me toward finding my next resto project! And to any newbies reading this thread, welcome to an amazing group of enthusiasts who will go out of their way to help with any question you may have about these amazing tractors. Thanks, guys! kj4kicks 154 #13 Posted May 27, 2008 As part of my very productive day yesterday, I got the old boat-seat '68 Electro 12 running. It will be donating a "loaner" engine to the C-120 so that it can make it to the show. All the metal parts are getting dropped off at the blaster tomorrow morning, and I'll pick them up early next week, after NAMA. Then it's time to make the garage just a little redder ! This time, I'm using epoxy primer!
nylyon-(Admin) 7,882 #14 Posted May 27, 2008 Just need to convert the engine to Battery ignition and use a different rectifier and it should work just fine. That was one of my original plans for the other Electro too. Looking forward to see how "Jeffery" turns out!
DMESS 24 #15 Posted May 27, 2008 Yeah, it's getting too clean in there. I noticed yesterday I could see the TV screen!

That was one of my original plans for the other Electro too. Looking forward to see how "Jeffery" turns out! Sorry Karl, wrong Electro. This is the one that I had before. I think it has the same ignition as the 120, but now I have to go check again..... Attached Image
TT-(Moderator) 1,162 #17 Posted May 27, 2008 I see a big-old battery ignition coil in the picture, Eldon.... You're safe! :WRS:

kj4kicks 154 #19 Posted May 27, 2008 Ok, I'll do some looking when I get home. Wouldn't want to have the wrong rectum fryer, since it's not a nut roaster. geez.....

kj4kicks 154 #21 Posted May 28, 2008 Finally got a chance to get more pics. Here's the rod with the questionable mark on it: All of the metal got dropped off at the blaster's today. It should be done when I get back from NAMA.

kj4kicks 154 #23 Posted May 28, 2008 Sorry, still figuring out the new camera I will resize the pics. Crank is not bad, might be able to just polish it. Need to mic it. EDIT : Pics resized.... oooooops
