TT-(Moderator) 1,147 #3 Posted April 8, 2011 If the new magneto is OEM B&S Magnetron "breakerless", then yes - you need a ground wire to kill the ignition. DO NOT APPLY BATTERY POWER TO THE NEW MAGNETO!
COMMANDO1 23 #4 Posted April 8, 2011 if i mount the ignition will that be enough?
TT-(Moderator) 1,147 #5 Posted April 8, 2011 Mount the ignition SWITCH? You changed the magneto that's mounted under the blower housing, right?
COMMANDO1 23 #6 Posted April 8, 2011 YES, THE EGNITION KEY SWITCH IS HANGING THERE. IT ALSO HAS A PUSH BUTTON START
TT-(Moderator) 1,147 #7 Posted April 8, 2011 If it had a magneto with points and you changed it to Magnetron, you need the same type of ignition switch. 2 terminals with continuity between them when the key is in the off position. Terminals should be connected as follows: One to chassis ground & the other to the spade terminal of the magneto - which is usually connected through an insulated "bulkhead" terminal mounted in one of the cooling shrouds. COMMANDO1 23 #8 Posted April 8, 2011 IM CONFUSED , I HAVE BATTERY POS LEAD TO PUSHBUTTON START, THEN THE LEAD GOES TO IGNITION SWITCH, THENI FOLLOW THE WIRE TO ENGINE SHROUD. IT THEN PICKS HOOKS UP WITH WIRE FROM MAGNETO(IS THAT THE GROUND? MAG WIRE TO SHROUD AND KEY SWITCH TO SHROUD?

COMMANDO1 23 #11 Posted April 11, 2011 Switched over to a magnatron and have spark, but very little. i have been serching the net,and with help from TT ithink what i am going to do is clean the magnet on the flywheel good and recharge the magnet. if i can get good spark then i will work on my slow turning STARTER CHARGER. Thanks TT. re: if you search the net you will find that you can recaharge the magnet on the flywheel w/rare earth magnets. any thoughts?
tophatbufflo 2 #12 Posted April 15, 2011 Rare earth magnets are used in computer hard drives and sold on ebay. If you get a pair of large ones they are capable of giving you a blood blister if you get skin caught between them
