Smokey Blaze 2 #1 Posted April 1, 2011 I'm looking at a 417-A with a side discharge deck. I forgot to check the actual size of the deck. This WH shows 990 hrs. It has a hydraulic lift, Rear wheel weights, front hubcaps and tach a matic. It looks nice, but I have not heard it run. What are the strengths an weaknesses of this WH? Any suggestions on what to offer? Will my Toro / WH 36" Single Stage Snow Blower ( Model #79360) fit this tractor?
zieg72 209 #2 Posted April 2, 2011 They made 417A's 2 years 1985-86. I have a 417-8, it's 8 speed brother. I think they are great tractors. Mine has 851 hours on it and it runs awesome. My only beef with mine is the electric lift hat it is slow compared to a hydraulic lift that is in my 520H. With any hydro that is used test it when it is hot. smoreau 658 #4 Posted April 3, 2011 I have one and love it! many say that they or not good on hilly yards and such as they have poor oiling problems if its a series 1. mine is a 85 i think and has a series II on it and works great! lots of power and the hydro lift works great! saves your arm on lifting up that heavy blower. only down fall with me is it drinks a lot of gas compared to my single cylinder tractors. here is a pic of mine. Smokey Blaze 2 #5 Posted April 3, 2011 The 417-A that I was looking at sold at auction for $900.00. It looked to be in good shape, but I was a little concerned about almost 1,000 hrs. on the machine. I don't know if that was a good deal or if I was overly concerned about the hours. There was a lot of interest in this tractor from several bidders. I kind of know the guy that bought it. I knew he wanted it and also know his pockets are deeper than mine. You win some you loose some.
mr.pipes 4 #6 Posted April 3, 2011 I have one and love it! many say that they or not good on hilly yards and such as they have poor oiling problems if its a series 1. mine is a 85 i think and has a series II on it and works great! I have not conducted any tests myself on Series I vs II. But the oil pickup is at the same location on both engines. 30 degree angles and less should be fine but low oil will reduce the angle you can operate and still have the pickup submerged. The series II does have a better lubrication system overall. Search for KT17II if you want more info, this has been discussed many times.
