GT14 Headlights only work on 1st Position

Recommended Posts

Hello all, new here. I picked up a 1970 GT14 out of the upstairs of a buddies barn that has been up there for 15+ yrs. One of my problems is the headlights only work on the first ignition setting. If I turn the key to the run setting, there is no power to the accessories. This makes me believe the ignition switch is bad. Any ideas and anyone know what part number the switch is? All I found was pat # 2868906.

Thanks.

Does the engine continue to run when the switch is moved back to the "first" position?

P/N for the OEM switch is 8362 and it looks like it's still available from Toro.

Yes, the engine does continue to run in that first position.

That's actually the way it's supposed to work.

Position 1 = OFF

Position 2 = RUN + ACCESSORIES

Position 3 = RUN

Position 4 = START

Hello, you are also going to find if you have an electric clutch it will also work the same way. You probably already figured that out by what TT said but I figured I would just throw that out there. Love them GT14's. Good luck :D
