Briggs OHV valve train question

Hello All,

before I posted this I checked and I found three engines all the same way... It is a 14.5 Briggs OHV one lunger that is splash lubed. The two pushrods are the same exact length ---BUT--- the bottom one (intake I think) is alluminum tube with the ball ends pressed in and the upper is steel with the balls welded on. :thumbs: What gives??? Why would they put two different material pushrods in a motor? I checked two 14.5's and one 14 and they are all the same????

Inquiring minds want to know.....

Bet it has something to do with valve lash, as the engine gets hot, alum. and steel act diff. as they get hot.

true the exhaust is usually heavier duty because of heat factor.

I agree. Have had a few of these break exhaust valves. Engine is junk after that. A valve in the engine does all kinds of damage. Very expensive to replace a head and piston
