Dozer blade question

Recommended Posts

nekovt

Hi everyone, I'm sorry if this is a basic question, but it's one that's got me.

I have a 48in and a 36in dozer blade. I'm wondering if the long strip of metal that's on the front bottom needs to extend down below the dozer blade itself. Both of mine are flush with the metal of the dozer blade. I think I saw somewhere that you can replace them, but I wasn't sure if these need to be replaced or if they are ok.

I use the big one to move snow and the small one to move dirt / snow.

Thanks much!

Brad

I'm not sure how far they are supposed to extend past the blade. It's basically a sacrificial edge to protect the blade. They are replaceable and available online. You could have one made or make your own. Don't let them get to the point where the blade itself begins to wear. Others have bought blades that have been worn down to the mounting holes where the cutting edge bolts on and have had to make repairs to mount a cutting edge. If you search for cutting edge or blade you should find related posts.

You can just flip the cutter over and use the other side.

1) I'm wondering if the long strip of metal that's on the front bottom needs to extend down below the dozer blade itself.

2) Both of mine are flush with the metal of the dozer blade.

1) The plate, commonly called a Wear Blade, i designed to hang below the level of the dozer blade so the dozer blade itself does not wear down in use. If yours are even then they need to be turned over so that the other side is used. If both are equally worn (i.e. neither direction extends beyond the dozer blade) you need to replace it, or risk wearing your dozer blade (not a good thing).

2) Both your plows need the wear plates rotated or replaced as necessary.

I had a feeling it might be something like that.

They are all even so I will try fliping them over. Thank you!!!!
