wheel horse man 56 #1 Posted March 16, 2011 i have a 7hp tecky it is off a 1967 sears custom it is recoil only i have rebuilt the carb put new points and condensor the engine it sat for 20 years under a shed on a sears custom i got spark and got the carb tuned right it runs great!!!! but when i shut it off after it has warmed up it will not start agian i pulled the head and there was lots of gas on the bottom of the head the i checked the valves buy taking off the breather and i found gas in the valve conpartment then i checked the oil and it has gas in it the engine ran good it did not smoke and has lots of compression some one has put new valves in the engine the intake was to tall and was not sealing right i could put a flash light in the intake port and see light all around the valve when it was sopost to be closed so i have a parts engine i took out the intake valve and put it in and it seams to seal now so i put the carb back on a new head gasket and every thang else third pull and she ran like a charm i let it warm up and then shut her down went to start it and it will not start again till i let it cool for a whole day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! why wont it start back up

wheelhorse656 20 #3 Posted March 17, 2011 whats ure end gaps on ur valves. also on the carb did u use the spacer that is supoosed to go between the block and the carb. also what type carb did u put on it. is it a walbro and if so what are the numbers it me the wrong carb and it is getting to much fuel that wat to. it might be also the points may have gotten a drip of oil on them start with this and we can go from there. also a nother easy thing it might be after u put the new valve in did u replace or clean and regap the spark plug. that should be gaped at 28 to 30 and should be a champion j19lm or autolight 458 the 458 ussually works the best on these old teckys. also on the points did you gap them to 18-20 thousendths? these are all possible thing that can go wrong with them that are easy to fix. hope this helps

puddlejumper 67 #5 Posted March 17, 2011 How long did you let it run beforem you shut it down. Did you let it get hot or just warmed up. And when its warm and will not start does it have spark. And try a new spark plug just because a old one that sparks when observed by eye will not necessarilly work under compression. I honestly ndo not think its the plug but it only takes a second to jerk one from another engine. But it could be condensor or coil failing or producing a weak spark when warm failing to have enough umph to restart the engine.
