Hammerhead 817 #1 Posted March 4, 2011 A guy dropped by last weekend when he saw 2 of my Wheel Horse's sitting in the driveway. He said he had an old one that he wanted to sell on CL. I said I was interested and he invited me over to have a look see. Turned out to be a real nice machine! He just tuned it all up and put in a new battery. Cool, I need another GOOD battery! It runs pretty good but the choke and throttle cables are not adjusted to specs, go figure. Original owner was an old fella. He repainted it once a long time ago, but he did a great job on it, it looks factory fresh! I'll clean it up, remove the wrong mower deck and throw it on the pile! Hammerhead havin' fun now!
TT-(Moderator) 1,131 #2 Posted March 4, 2011 Nice, but what makes the mower deck "wrong"?
multihobbyguy 35 #3 Posted March 4, 2011 Congrats on the new tractor! It looks to be in awesome condition. Just curious what is "wrong" with the mower deck?
Hammerhead 817 #4 Posted March 4, 2011 I think these tractors came with the old style rectangle mower deck. I'll check for Model Number tag and see what it says.
TT-(Moderator) 1,131 #5 Posted March 4, 2011 If it was sold close to the end of 1964 - or even later, the dealer could have installed a 1965 (or newer) deck. It's also not unheard of to find a tractor that's a few years newer than the deck. (leftover dealer inventory, etc.)

wheelhorse656 20 #11 Posted March 4, 2011 the in 1964 the decks were the square style not that style. but like TT said it might have came with that style deck if the tractor was sold from the deal in 1965. if it were me i would put the square deck on it. also nice score!!!
stevasaurus 22,631 #12 Posted March 4, 2011 Very nice 654. I actually like those decks compared to the square ones. That is one heck of a find.

Hammerhead 817 #19 Posted March 5, 2011 Thanks guys, it does look pretty good. I got a good deal on it, $250.00 was the price! He was gonna list it on CL for $375 and let everyone beat him down. I was gonna offer $300 for it but I asked what he wanted for it first. Luckily he didn't want to make a ton off it. It came from a small town about 5 miles away! The deck is probably original to this machine, so I will leave it on here for now. I am going to add a seat cover and clean it up a bit.
