Hello! I have been a big fan of Wheel Horses since I was a kid, driving a friends (a friend of my father), C-195 Hydro. I have had a B-80 for about 8 years now, having laid a room of carpet for it. I also have an 84 GT 1600, which brings me to a question- the pulleys on the mule drive are starting to get noisy, and I don't know where to find new/good ones. Can someone point me in the right direction?

I belong to a Jeep forum, and love it. I look very forward to the wisdom and insight on this forum.

Hello & :WRS: ! Glad you found us and I'm sure you'll find we're a friendly bunch!

You were a lucky kid if you got to spend time on the seat of a C-195! This is a hard to find machine built in relativley low numbers.

As far us the "mule drive" pulleys, post something in the classified "wanted" section. Someone here will more than likely be able to help you out. You could also check ebay or even your closest Toro dealer if buying new is an option you would consider. These pullies are easy to replace, but sometimes you can pick an entire "mule" up for less than just the new pulleys.

Thanks for the welcome. I am sort of a computer doofus, so I will get my 12 year old to help me post photos.

Do you ever wish you could go back in time? He had the C-195, and eventually sold it for a 520-H. Once, when I was backing the 195 into his barn, I accidentally hit the front tire of a Ford 9N with a platform that was on the 3 point hitch, from the side, and pushed the front of the tractor sideways. That was cool, and really impressed me! I had no idea that one day, both machines would be so heralded!

I would guess this to be in the early eighties. I don't think I will ever stop appreciating the simplicity and rational thinking that went into these machines. I don't worship this kind of stuff, but rather marvel at the accomplishments. Sorry. I am getting warm and fuzzy.

Hodge,

:WRS: !

Some of the Wheel Horse stuff has replaceable bearings, so take the pulley off and have a look.

If you want to get something cheap there are lots of generic idlers available.

Of course many would argue you should go genuine Toro WH and it is quite likely they have this part available.

Check out our links section and look fo rmanufacturer's supply and Foley-Belsaw.

Welcome, and good luck

PS - IN the short term you might try working a little oil into that bad boy. It can't hurt.

 as for the pulleys, yes you can get them from Toro, around $50 for the pair, but you will be good for years to come, I've heard Sterns also sells them but not sure.

When replacing them, take note of the location of the pulleys and spacers.

You can also get them off ebay but don't know what your getting till you get it.

Do both tractors have a mule drive? Their the same on both yer tractors so if ones still good that'll get ya by till you can buy new pulleys or a new/used mule drive.

I think only the mule drive for the 37"SD deck is differant than all the rest.

Wow! My 37" mule drive is an odd-ball? Does that I mean I need to find another drive for other attachments? Or better yet, maybe I need another tractor for other attachments...now THERE's an idea!

Most mule drives have one "V" pulley and one flat pulley. The one for a 37"sd deck has 2 "V" pulleys and it uses that special double V belt.

Nothing uses the deck drive belt tensioner ("mule drive" - ) except a mower deck. You can actually just buy a flat idler pulley and install it on your existing tensioner if you ever change to a deck with a standard "V" belt.

BUT..... You really should have one tractor for a dozer blade, one for a mower, one for a tiller, one for a snowthrower...... :D That way you never have to remove any of the attachments. :D

Shouldn't you have backup tractors for each of those just in case?

And of course you need at least two with each of those attachments so that you have a backup in case one breaks down!

EDIT! Karl, we think alike!

OK, guys - I get the picture! Now let's see....if I hide one in the basement, one in the workshop, two under the workshop, one behind the workshop :WRS: ....yup...I just might be able to pull this off without the wife blowing a gasket. After all, if all she sees is a red tractor, I can pretty much count on her not to notice the difference in models. :D Hee hee hee! And another collector is born! Man, I LOVE this forum!

You guys are THE best! :D

Was I the only one to misread his initial post? When I first read it, I thought that he'd carpeted a room in his house or in his shop and was parking his WH in the carpeted room. Then, after a little  I figured out that he meant he'd done a carpet job for someone and got the WH as a trade.

Or do you park your WH inside, on the carpet, hodge? LOL!! :WRS: Either way, welcome aboard!

First things first, Hodge! A gold mine of GOOD information from a bunch of GREAT guys.

I have a room in my almost finished basement that was initially earmarked as an N scale train layout room (16x8 1/2 feet). I installed entry doors into the basement and on into this room that are JUST wide enough for my RJ-58, 400 suburban, and 702 to slip through. ;)I don't know for sure, but the Charger 9 and 1054a may also fit. I have told the wife that I intend to re-assemble my dad's 400 inside this room when I get around to it, and she seemed receptive. Now I just have to figure out what she is going to want in return. <_<

Oh!, I almost forgot! Since I have a little experience with ceramic tile, I just might put down an off white (as close to Linen Beige as I can find) tiles with red accents. Whatcha think?
