mmoomaw 0 #1 Posted February 24, 2011 Hey I am looking at the PTO on my Wheel Horse 417-A. Based on the parts diagram there are supposed to be two pulleys: an inner/larger one and and outer/smaller one. Here is the parts diagram (warning, big pic): http://www.moomaw.me/pics/Wheel%20Horse%20...tch%20Parts.gif I have always use the outer pulley. It doesn't really look like there is an inner one - or if there is, it actually looks smaller. Here is a pic of my tractor (warning, big pic): http://www.moomaw.me/pics/WH%20PTO%20Clutch.JPG Questions: Are there two pulleys here? Is the inner one bigger (it looks smaller)? I have having problems with clutch slippage while blowing. In theory I should use the outer/smaller pulley. I am on the outer pulley but it actually looks BIGGER. Thanks. -Mike
mattd860 162 #2 Posted February 24, 2011 The inner pulley is actually larger than the outer. Many people here use the inner pulley for the blowers even though the blower manuals suggest the outer pulley.
racinfool40 203 #3 Posted February 24, 2011 In your pic the belt is on the correct pulley. As on my 518-h your pulley stop pad sits low on the inner pulley. I removed mine when I moved the belt into the other larger pulley for the blower. As for the belt slipping might try to tighten your engagement rod a little. I tightened mine a little and lightly sanded the PTO bell were it contacts the the engagement pad on the pto and has worked great so far..
Don1977 605 #4 Posted February 25, 2011 Your belt is not lined up right. It is bending as it comes off the top of your pulley. That may be why is is slipping. Your idler pulley may be whats not in line pulling the belt in at that angle. It looks as if it would line up better on the larger pulley.
mrocket49 23 #5 Posted February 25, 2011 Mine was slipping slightly so I took the clutch apart and found that some grease from the bearing inside the pulley had leaked out onto the disc. I cleaned everything up with brake cleaner spray and "lightly" greased the needle bearing and everything is now OK. It does appear that the top run of the blower belt is misaligned coming out of the pulley. Can you post another photo of the belt closer to the blower? The blower pulley or the belt tensioner pulleys may be out of alignment.
mavfreak 11 #6 Posted February 25, 2011 I have found sometimes (some may laugh at this) That the clutch disk needs a little sanding if this is whats slipping on yours. I Remove the PTO pulley and then take some 80 grit sandpaper and scuff it up then place the PTO pulley flat on the concrete floor and move it around in a circular movement and that scuff it up. Then apply some light grease to the bearings and then put it all back together. Worked for me
