D-180 front loader

I just got home from picking up the D-180 front loader . I'm happy but not that happy with it. sterring is very hard to sterr, the hood needs to be fixed, it has no grill, three tires need to be replaced the sterring wheel is bent. It has a 18 horse twin cylinder onan. i'm going to keep it for now and maybe sell it later.

This guy also has two panzars for sale he got them at an estate sale. One comes with mowerdeck and plow $500 and the other comes with mowerdeck, plow, cab, and trailer $700. I'm try to get my wife to show me how to down load pictures of my stuff. :thumbs:

I saw a grill and a few other D series parts on eBay just yesterday. Look at item # 230587682309. That's your grill.

Are you sure it's an Onan? It came from the factory with a Kohler K482.

I've got a grille and other parts, I have what is left of a D to part out, and I have a brand spanking new set of 26x12x12 turf tires

I have a question about the D's durability. I am looking for a tractor I can work to plow and till an acre or two. Will a D hold up to this kind of work?

It's a heavy duty tractor. It will work great for tilling as long as it's mec. sound. plowin 1 or 2 acres is quite a bit. Yours is probably a 74 & didn't have the cooling fan under the seat. I would recommend adding one of those. Plowing that much @ a time is going to get that hydro pretty hot. The skinny 15" tall rear tires would be better on the rear for plowing also. They fit into the plow ditch better than the 26x12x12 tires do. :thumbs:

Sooo, does that mean you have farming experience with the D? I am close to getting my D-160 set up. Got skidsteers on the back and some new Vred fronts on the way. I have a two row 42" disc that will be my main weapon. I have an FEL on the front so I may have to weight the back some, even with the disc. I just don't know. I will be putting in small food plots with it- clearing logged tree tops and limbs first, then discing, then mostly rolling, broadcasting, and rolling again. Any advice? What about the roller- favorite? Thanks.

Actually food plots are the type of farming I plan on doing. I made a 1/4 acre plot last fall but it wasn't big enough and quickly got wiped out by the deer. I have been using a C 120 to disc but the disc wouldn't do anything until I got the weeds gone and the ground loosened with a plow or tiller. Here in OK most of the soil needs to have lime added to get the PH up anyway so the soil needs worked a bit more the first time you work an area. I have a craftsman 8 HP pull behind tiller I fabricated to go behind my ATV last year and it did a pretty good job but this spring I mounted it to the C120 - 8 speed and that was the way to go. Put it in gear and let her chew. I would love to see a D working a tiller on virgin ground but haven't found a video yet. Maybe someone can put one in action and show us how "the beast" performs! :thumbs:

I use my stuff for gardening, overseeding & food plots. I have a brinly cultivator that I changed the shovels on w/actual cultivator tines from the farm & home. I rip up the surface of my foodplots w/it & then us my brinly 3pt disc to work the seed bed. The disc is alot for the tractor. With the disc adjusted correctly, the lift will barely get it off the ground. (not enough lift) I have several moldboard plows. I just use then in the garden twice a year. I don't use a roller, maybe I should. You would need wheel weights & weight on the implements for everything to work well. good luck.

Should we start a new topic for "mini farming"? I certainly have a lot to learn- I never though of tilling before discing, for example. I will try lifting the disc next time I go to my place- can't do much else if it won't even lift it! I can remove one row if I have to, which is why I bought it. Hopefully my tires & rims will arrive next week so I can put them on this coming weekend and maybe shoot some video.

I realize this thread kinda died but I noticed your original complaint about tires did not get addressed. I put some V88's on my D-160 and it steers much better than with the turfs that came with it. The dealer described them as a compromise tire. They are 4 ply, v-rib and seem to work OK off road. It's never going to steer easily but I bet these are about as easy as it gets.
