I need to know some details about a Kohler

Recommended Posts

Philipp

In the tendency of refurbishing my c-161 I ran into a couple problems. (see the engine forum)

The first problem is that I don't have a brake on my pto. (Sometimes annoying with the mower deck.) But it isn't just the brake that is missing.

I think the previous owner cut off a part of the bracket holding the pto tensioner. Is this piece the same one used on hydro's with Kohler's AND Onans or is the one of an Onan bigger? I saw the bracket of a 520 on ebay a few weeks ago but it's gone. For my 161 it isn't available on partstree, neither on ebay for the moment. Maybe someone has the thingy that I need?

Secondly, just a random question. What are these two holes for?

At last I have a question about the governor-linkage.

At full throttle, the lever that is connected with the governor with a spring (the one I'm pointing) touches the main-throttle-cable-bracket.

Is this factory?

Thank you Chas,

I found the specification number of the kohler with the help of your first site, thanks.

I have the manual of the engine here besides me, but they don't mention the support for the throttle cable.

regards, Philipp

Okay, according to the drawings the clip on the engine should be 90 deg and in a horizontal position (maybe it's schematic?). But the throttle cable ends vertically here in the drawings...

I guess I'll just have to bend it straight to solve the problem.

Thank you and Best Regards,

Philipp

Well, I would look at my tractor but I am 600 miles away from it!

BUT, I do have pics on my 'puter! You are missing the part of bracket that holds the brake!

I know I don't have the two holes in the flywheel cover on mine.

Hi Phillip, it may be that the Throttle Cable Bracket that you say is fouling the Pivot Plate , may be acting as a Full Trottle Stop. I can't see a correct style Throttle Stop bracket on that Pivot point (see C series14's picy) .

Secondly, the PTO Brake Bracket on yours is identical to mine on a 74 C-120, so mine also has no Brake. I don't know when these PTO Brakes were introduced, but it is shown in a separate Box in the Parts Manual drawings for a 75 C-120  .

Should not be a problem to add one though.

Lastly , I do not know what the Bosses are for on your Blower Housing  .

I think I have one of those brake brakes off of my C120 parts tractor.

Okay, thanks for the pictures Mike. Like Richard says, there isn't a Throttle Stop bracket on the Pivot point. The bracket is serving as a throttle-stop. I'm going to see if I can make a new one (or buy one), but first I want to buy a tachometer, so I can adjust the max throttle.

Thank you for your responses.

ps: tm: I've sent you a pm.
