wheel horse tractor guy

Hey,

Red square.Yesterday i was outside and was lookin at my wheel horses and noticed the shifter plate is wider on the c series then the b series. I'm kinda new to the wheel horse and i am still learning between models and different things on these tractors. Last week i picked up an old wheel horse garden cart not a little one but a big one that says wheel horse on the sides, in the front and back this trailer dumps also. I spotted in front of a mid 80's bolens with no motor so i asked the guy before he went to work if he would part with it. He said $50 it yours i said $40 and i'll go home and get my trailer right now. His response was o.k. lets do it just leave the money in the mail slot thank you and left to work. Man i drove home doing 60mph in town just to get the trailer went back and picked it up quick before he changed his mind.

A lot depends on what model year tractor you are talking about.

Some are verticals and some are horizontal shaft...........

Which makes some of them just like a C and others no where close.

Kind of vague but like Bob said.........depends on the model.

I agree with Bob also. I have A 1979 C81, it replaced the B80 ( so i am told ) Anyway it looks just like the B80. So it just depends on the tractor. Don't know if that helps !!

I have a b-100 that runs but the engine smokes i would love to put a 12 or 14 horse in it but at the same time i would like it to be some what original. Can i change to a different model. Did they use the same body for other models.

In my brief research I think the B's evolved a lot more than the C's. The C's were 8-16 hp with either auto or 8 speed transmissions - with the 1 1/8 inch axles.

The B's started with a 4 speed, evolved to the 8 speed - They started with 8hp and eventually you could get 7 to 10 hp. In 1980 - when the black hoods started they went to vert engines.

I think in the late 70's the only difference b/c the B's and C's was the hp. 8 or 10 was a B and 12+ hp was a C.

I think you could jsut swap out the motor - the frames were the same and it would be a C - whatever you put in. They B's may have the 1 inch 4 pinion diff transmissons, but to me these arae great transmissions also.

Some B horizontal shaft tractors use a shorter frame and hood, and they stopped the B's in horizontal form, in 77, 78 was the first year they put the gas tank under the fender, and no GARDEN tractors had the B on them at that point.

Also you said the shifter plates are diff. the tractors with the gas tank under the fender have a wider body, than the older ones.

A 1976 or 1977 B-100 can accommodate a 12 HP (K301S) or 16 HP (K341S) engine with no modifications. However it must be the S version with the standard large oil pan.

also the the mid 70's C's (C-120/160) had the 23 tires while my B-80 has the smaller 22 tire, also the headlamp was an option on the B's as opposed to standard on the C's..but as already stated mostly is was bigger engines and the the option of hydro with the C's...but there was an B-100 hydro right?
