Kelly 1,033 #1 Posted February 20, 2011 Well I wasn't sure where to post this kind fits here, so..... I made a trip to the local scrap yard yesterday, just before they closed, and poked around to see what goodies they had, I spied two golf course mowers, setting there, as I was looking them over Ben a buddy that works there told me to get what I wanted off them they are going in the scrap box Mon., I wanted lots off them but no time to pull the parts, just then the owner stopped to say Hi, then he told me to stop in today sat. even tho they are closed he let me pull parts off, I love small towns, well I pulled the steering control towers with orbital valves off both units, complete with amp meters, hour meters, steering wheels and key switches, then I pulled a few hoses, control rods with greasable heim joints, a hand full of knobs, some spacers, one nice long batt. cable, and a nice hyd. steering cyl. with heim joints, I'm gathering parts to put power steering on my loader tractor, I think I have most of them now. then I was getting ready to leave I seen the pile of farm tractor weights, so I took a peek to see what was in the pile, I found a nice set of JD weights 65 lbs each, made for 15" wheels I needed a set for my C-195. I think I did ok I bought every thing for $50 and took a hour to pull it all, I need a bigger barn to store crap Weights are even notched to fit around the lug bolts (C-195's are 6 bolt 15" wheels) front and back of weights. mavfreak 11 #7 Posted February 20, 2011 I've spied a few things at the scrap yard I would love to have had. but they got kinda pissed when I asked if I could buy it. They pointed to a sign that said "We do not sell back scrap to no one no execption" so I asked if I could have it then. I never seen someone's face get so red in my life. Anyway of the few scrap yards I go to around me we are not aloud to do that. Unless your lucky enoungh to catch it before they go across scales. I happened on a guy with a with two ford engines One was a 351C that I bought the heads off of and the other was a 289 so I bought all of it for 50 guess what I'll be doing with them

Kelly 1,033 #13 Posted February 22, 2011 Perry that tractor junk yard is gone, as for the steering controls, I have a plan for power steering on my loader tractor, and those orbital valves cost $100+ used, about $400 new, so I pick them up when I can. rueger-99 0 #14 Posted February 22, 2011 I spotted this in the junk yard.....offered $40 for it and was told I'll call you... The yard owners kinda cranky and private. It's been about 5 weeks now and he still hasn't cracked... I spotted it before the snow and could see that there is a deck attached, but its so far from the road its hard to see anything. I took a picture with a zoom lens today...looks like a 314/8 with chains and a deck.
Kelly 1,033 #15 Posted February 22, 2011 Well, I don't go that cheap on complete tractors, I'd start at $100 and if it is nice go up from there, I know that is worth more than $40 in scrap, at $300+ a ton most yards sell their scrap at.
