mattd860 162 #1 Posted February 11, 2011 I'm looking at getting a 1990 520H but I want to make sure all of my attachments will fit. I know the snow blower and deck will fit but what about the plow (model # 79350)? Is there anything that I should look for and be careful of? It has less than 500 hours. Do all the 520H's have steering reduction? Also - I belive the 520H was sold for over a decade. What changed on it over the years?
Kelly 1,033 #2 Posted February 11, 2011 Ok this is what I think I know, the 1990 would have the forward swept axle but not gear reduction steering, I think that is the first year for the dash mounted forward and lift controls ( they are nice) 500 hours is low, make sure the meter works most of mine don't. pretty much every attachment for any horizotal shaft tractor 73 up will fit it (not the XI stuff with out mods) the only thing would be a snowblade, it will need the extending kit, they can be found, but cost more than the blades, I have a few 520's I like them very much, but are gas hogs compaired to the single cyl. kohlers, but the power is unreal
mattd860 162 #3 Posted February 11, 2011 what is the part number on the plow extending kit? When did they start implementing the steering reduction?
Kelly 1,033 #4 Posted February 11, 2011 not sure on the part no. but one just sold on here a day or two ago, I believe $150, I think they started the gear reduction in 91 or
MalMac 1,332 #5 Posted February 11, 2011 The gear reduction was started in 91. I have a 90 and it does not have the reduction. Also my 42in side discharge will fit but the deck wheels hit the rear tires because the 520's use a larger tire. As far as not having the steering reduction I only notice it when using my 2 stage blower and the 60in deck. I have another one that has the reduction and it is nice but you work twice as hard with your arms steering in tight areas.
stevebo-(Moderator) 8,538 #6 Posted February 11, 2011 I love my 1988 520HC. It does not have the reduction steering however I run my 60 inch deck on it and I see no issues. When I had my 2 stage blower mounted on it the steering was an issue. The gear reduction would have helped with the 44 inch blower however you have a 38 so you should be fine. If not, let me know and I will take that 38 off your hands..
