kodiak 5 #1 Posted February 5, 2011 here are the hoses i got today. the problem i am having is the 12 is hydrostatic drive which i am not familiar with and it does want to pull very well. what can i check to try to fix it?
HorseFixer 2,013 #2 Posted February 5, 2011 Yikes! and I thought My Garage was a mess! First thing to ck is fluid level. You should use 30wt for top off or changing oil. I would then change oil and filter. Use a Wheel horse brand They do not have an anti drain valve in them! I have cut them open and they have more flow than any filter out there. Good Luck! ~Duke
TT-(Moderator) 1,162 #3 Posted February 5, 2011 I'm guessing that the hydro tractor is a 1277. The Sundstrand Hydro-Gear system originally used type "A" ATF. (replaced by Dexron ATF) If it was changed to motor oil, you will need to positively identify it BEFORE you add or change fluid. DO NOT MIX ATF & MOTOR OIL! Aside from checking the fluid level, make sure the bypass ("tow") valve is closed. Have you checked the drive belt? It should be under "moderate" tension when you push the parking brake lever down. kodiak 5 #4 Posted February 5, 2011 yes the model number says 1277 but i noticed the side panel on the dash says 12 automatic. does that meen anything or did someone put the wrong stickers on it? the valve is closed i did check that. and do you have a diagrahm of the fill and check holes on the transmission? like i said i now nothing of hydro systems
whfan74 2,072 #5 Posted February 5, 2011 I am sure you have already done this and not to sound silly but you do have the hydro engaging lever, that is actually pulled up in front of the seat in the down position when you are trying to move it correct? Going to have a hard time moving it without our engaging the hydro. Just a thought from the picture and I am sure it was already taken care of.

The 12-auto was a 1973 model only and you definitly have the wrong decals on it. Mike........
TT-(Moderator) 1,162 #7 Posted February 5, 2011 do you have a diagrahm of the fill and check holes on the transmission? There's a dipstick located inside the tool box / storage compartment under the fender. It looks like a square-headed pipe plug screwed into a pipe coupler - which is attached to a short piece of pipe. If & when you need to find it, the drain plug is on the bottom of the transaxle case near the left rear corner. It should be a pipe plug with a recessed 1/4" hex. (looks like a set screw)
kodiak 5 #8 Posted February 5, 2011 so that tractor is actually a 1973 1277 correct? as soon as i get home ill check the fluid
TT-(Moderator) 1,162 #9 Posted February 6, 2011 No - it's a 1967 1277.
kodiak 5 #10 Posted February 6, 2011 sry i meant 1967. well the dipstick is not a dip stick its a cap. so i added alittle fluid to see if it would help and it did kind. i just need to clean the carb to get it running smoothly. which im sure its low i noticed the lift cylinder was leaking when i raised it up all the way
