10 8sp saves the day.

A month ago I inquired about a WH package I found locally and was given the good advice to go for it. I bought a 10 8speed, C-120 hydro (engine had a broken rod) (3) mower decks, (1) plow, (1) rototiller, 230 pounds of sold lead wheels weights and tire chains for $500 delivered.

The engine in the 10 8 is excellent so I started kyping parts off of the C-120 to improve the 10 8. The plow is a grader plow (no springs) and the A frame was for a short wheel base tractor so I had to extend it 15" to work on the 10 8. After I got the tractor running perfect and everything serviced I tried plowing snow and it was just really bad, no traction at all and it pulled really badly to the left. If you have seen my recent post in the transmission forum you'll know I found the differential was assembled incorrectly with all the pinion gears set to one side.

We now have a huge snow storm in Iowa and I just got the transmission fixed and all buttoned up so time to see if there were any improvements. Note: along with the 230 pounds of wheel weights and chains I added a 70 pound weight box. Wow can't believe the difference this thing with the trans fixed is unstoppable, I have a 400' uphill driveway and I plowed 7" of snow uphill no problem.

Thanks to all for answering my questions and all the help, this is a very neat tractor and a great worker.

Looks good :banghead: ! Just dont hit anything solid in third-hi, without a trip spring plow you might get tossed over the steering wheel  .

Yeah I know what you mean I've already been stopped cold in my tracks once so am now be more careful. Went out and plowed again this evening 12" of snow had fallen and drifted into the drive in just 3 hours. It was blowing and snowing so hard I couldn't keep you glasses clean to see. I've live in Iowa for 32 years and have never seen anything like this. Tomorrow morning will be the real test of the WH wish me luck, wish I had a blower for this one.
