Snow shoes on the 417-8

Recommended Posts

I was @ TSC today & decided to try the roller chain on the front tires. The last time I pushed snow(1st w/417-8) it didn't turn very well. I wasn't sure what size to get so I decided on #41(same price as #40). I got a 10' box. When I was done, I had less than a foot left. I aired the tires up to 6 lbs. Is that ok? The rears have ags w/some 75lb. weights I added. I deflated them to 6 lbs. Is that ok or can I let more out? I'll try to get a pic tomorrow nite. :banghead:

I have used the roller chain on the front for 2 years now (C-175 with plow). Made a big improvement in steering control. I think you are going to need more than 6lbs to keep the chain on. Had one come off last year...took forever to find it.

I let all the air out and put the chain on, i had to add and subtract links until it was snug with no air in the tire. Aired them up to about 20 lbs you can see that the center of the tire is depressed by the chin but they haven't come off again...

Edit; By the way check your spindles..The chains put much more lateral load on the E clip used on some spindles to hold the wheel on. One failed last year....big PIA. I changed spindles to use the ones that have cotter pins. If you have the bolt on ones make sure the bolts are tight and use locktite especially on the left side.

I had my right wheel fall off also. :banghead: Was sitting in the middle of the alley three house away from the garage. What a pain in the a$$. And I wasn't running chains on the front.

I was thinking of doing this but I have a question. Has anyone tried them with front AG's?
