417A hydraulic lift problem

Recommended Posts

xring1

I was blowing snow and went to lift the blower and there was a bang and the blower will not lift.

I have checked and all shafts/lift bars etc are intact and no leaks anywhere. It sounds like the hydraulics at the control lever are getting pressure and puts a slight load on the engine but the ram is not working.

Any ideas? :banghead:

Is the lift flag still hooked in the little hole on the lift arm? Maybe the "stub" on the lift flag busted off :banghead: . I allways thought that piece was kinda undersize for what it was required to do.

If the pin on the lift "flag" didn't pop out or shear off, here's another possibility.....

It's highly unusual, but the square key on the lift shaft (#18 in the following illustration) can shear.

The hydraulic ram is not working to move anything to begin with.

Everything else seems to be intact. Is it possible that the piston/ram broke inside the ram housing?

There is a good possibility that the O-rings on the ram went bad

the only way to find out is to take the cylinder apart and inspect

the O-rings

You will find most newer rams are not rebuildable with out cutting them open then welding back shut.

What do you consider "newer"? I assume the ram is original 1985
