Help with some Horse info...

What year was the 312-8 made & what is the deck size that would have been used on this tractor ? Thank's - Shawn - (horseheadhunter)

I found listings for it on Toro's site for 1985 thru 2001, maybe longer. The 1985 shows several decks from 36 inches to 48 inches.

Thank's for the info . I'm not real familuar with these wierd # 'ed models at all. I'm kinda interested in a 312-8 for mowing purposes with a 46" deck on it. Sure will beat mowing with my 656 32" cut ( 2 acres ) , & it takes me about 5 hours solid. Does anyone know what a fair price is for one of these ? Thank's -Shawn- (horseheadhunter)

It's impossible to "guess" a price for an invisible tractor. If you had pictures and some kind of history on the tractor, we could give you a better idea.

I have seen used ones as low as $150 - and as high as $2500.

The last one I had (1985 model) sold for $450 with a 42" RD deck.

The model number system isn't hard to decipher either....

It's a 300 series tractor with a 12 horsepower engine and an 8 speed transmission.

It should run a 36", 37" or 42" deck with ease, and will handle a 48" deck as long as the conditions are right. :whistle:

The other fellows are far better qualified than I to establish a value (and to give advice on almost everything else - I'm a newbie to this brand), but here's something else that might be useful. If you are looking at a specific machine (eBay, private sale, etc.) see if you can get the model number from the decal on the rear fender pan under the seat. It should be something like 2112K806 (mine is an '89 312-8). Then go to this Toro site:

Enter the number, but put a dash between the second and third digits (for instance, 21-12K806). This will telll you the exact year the tractor was built and give you options for looking up parts and drawings. Great, and very useful info. Fortunately, most parts for the 312-8's seem to still be available.

I've got two green tractors and used to have a Crapsman a few years ago - the 312-8 is hands down better built than anything I've owned!
