KC9KAS 4,744 #1 Posted January 24, 2011 I was having (I thought) a problem with the drive belt on my B-100. The belt that I removed had the Wheel Horse name with the numbers 7478 HBD038 This belt (new) was 84" long X 0.625 (5/8") wide. The parts look confirmed this size. I crossed the size to a GATES belt and went to the auto parts store to buy this size belt. The new belt when installed seems awfully close to it's self when the parking brake is OFF and in the "run" position. The old belt had just about the same clearence and that is why I replaced it, thinking it had stretched over time. The tractor moved forward and backwards fine at slow speed, but when the lever is pushed to "Full Speed Ahead", the tractor actually slows down because the belt is slipping. Maybe I need a stronger spring on the idler pully, but I am concerned about the closeness of the two side of the new belt. Does this seem right? It does make the belt go about 3/4 to 7/8 the way around the drive pulley, but I still experience slipping. What do the experts say?
WheelHorse_of_course 99 #2 Posted January 26, 2011 7478 is a 5L or HB (5/8) cross section x 84.22 " long So, your 84" gated belt is a bit shorter than the factory belt. These do not need a lot of tension in my experience. I am guessing your old belt is fine - does it show a shiny "glazing" pattern on the sides. ON some machines we have found that a 1/2 (4L) inch 84" belt is needed to make sure the parking brake fully de-clutches. The thread below gives some general background, but may not be 100% relevant. http://www.wheelhorseforum.com/index.php?showtopic=23218 A few things I would check: Make sure the idler is in good shape. take a black marker and place a line across the hub and axle of both rear wheels. Run it until it slips and see if the hub has slipped. This is not uncommon. Best of luck, and keep us posted! :banghead:
