illinilefttackle 399 #1 Posted May 10, 2008 I told myself I was going to fix this TODAY! I drove across town to another WH dealer(that I never even knew existed) and luckily he had a shutoff & bushing in stock-$11-ouch! But anything for my ole girl. When I got off work-I tackled the problem (pun intended). I sure didn't want to take that tank off again-just had it off to put cable on- so I started trying to twist the thing out of the tank with the tank still on-to my surprise it came right out! The bushing was torn, wonder it didn't leak. AND I mean to tell you that strainer was completely full of crud-27 years worth. I then looked at the new shutoff-it had a strainer too! It doesn't now! I tore it off-I have a humungous in line filter anyway. So I lubed up the bushing put it in the tank-and lubed up the new shutoff and put it in-just like I knew what I was doing. Now for the test-I started the Big Kohler up-it filled the filter up half way and stayed there no matter how I loaded it up! Great! At last the engine had its full power-boy I must say, I can really feel the difference-especially when the govenor kicks in-now it has some real punch! Thanks to all of you that helped with your comments!-AL

TT-(Moderator) 1,162 #3 Posted May 10, 2008 Isn't it amazing how $11 worth of parts solved such a big problem though? Some guys would have rebuilt the carburetor, bought a new fuel pump, points & condenser, air filter, etc., etc., etc. by now. (and spent more like $111 ) Glad to hear your Horse is well again, Al! :WRS:
Banjo 0 #4 Posted May 10, 2008 Congrats! What model tractor and how common is this problem?
illinilefttackle 399 #5 Posted May 10, 2008 :WRS: 1981 C-125 Hydro--12HP Kohler--It seems to be fairly common from what I read. By the looks of the screen filter I saw in the old shutoff I took out-any tractor close to as old as mine could benefit from this change-Boy what a difference in power!-AL
KyBlue 655 #6 Posted May 10, 2008 Good deal ya got it fixed, and So easily too! 11 really isnt all that bad, coulda been worse!
glenn27 71 #7 Posted May 11, 2008 Had the same identical thing happen on a C model I bought--But the P/O had epoxeyd or glued or someting--to stop it from leaking... Did manage to get it all out-after scxrappin/sanding.....-and fix it w/ the right stuff...But instead of useing the 90% shutoff on the bottom of the tank--I put a plastic in-line shut off in front of the little in line filter........Next time I'll just buy the 90% L-fitting w/ barbed end, for the bottom oif the tank--and use the in-line filter--it's a lot cheaper.. You can also buy the exact same parts @ NAPA (small engine catalog) if you do not have a Toro dealer nearby..... C-Ya!!
rustbucket 4 #8 Posted May 11, 2008 it could have been way way worse you could have spent 350 dollars on parts like i had to just to get the GT-14 to work and run well 110 of it was for a comfort option aka new seat.
