racinfool40 202 #1 Posted January 18, 2011 Recently picked up a C-175 pretty cheap as a project..After further Inspection this is what I found!!!!This is a kt-17 series2 Just goes to show what can happen when cylinders are clogged of dirt and debris.Rod completely shattered which resulted in cam being broke in 4 places and also cracking the aluminum block were the cam journals are!!!Don't get me wrong It's no fault of the person I bought it from was the previos owner before Him!!!!Because he received it this way and never messed with it!!! All's good will now be be a C-125!!!!Just goes to show a little maintenance or even an air hose will go along way

B-8074 19 #9 Posted January 25, 2011 Man that looks like it hurt. I've heard that the first gen's have problems but not to much about the 2nd gen. What is the differnce between them? I have a 1st gen on my C-175 and it runs like a beast. It burns very little oil, only at start up.
Operator 7 #10 Posted January 25, 2011 That mess is just from being overheated? Maybe a couple tubes of JB Weld Randy
racinfool40 202 #11 Posted January 25, 2011 I'm guessing was an overheating problem!! I should of took some pics of the tins and all before I disassembled. It was packed with fine dirt almost the consistancy of baking powder. All the cooling fins were packed full and the tins were packed full af Grass and the fine dirt..Had about 2 qts of oil in it when drained so who knows the parts that were good are finding new home's :banghead:
