I have gotten a couple of pieces painted, can anyone guess what type of paint it is? The red is a little lighter than what I was expecting it to turn out but I think it looks good. What do you think? nwh1-0475 0 #8 Posted May 8, 2008 Dustin you a smart fellow. It is powder coated. The color is blood red with a glass clear, clear coat. I guess I am a lucky guy, I work in a powder coat shop so it doesn't cost me anything to get it painted as long as I do it a couple pieces at a time. It might take me a couple months to get it all painted though, but done correctly it will last a lifetime. Good guesses everybody. nwh1-0475 0 #10 Posted May 8, 2008 Ya, it does. It is kind'a annoying having to stretch it out for so long but it's FREE so what can ya say. It should be very durable, we have a 6 stage wash system with a zinc phosphate bath and we regularly pass 750 hour salt sprays. So hopefully it will last a long time. nwh1-0475 0 #12 Posted May 9, 2008 I was wondering what everybody thought about powder coating the trans and engine. The parts are heated up to 400 degrees to cure the paint, it will stay at that temp for 10 minutes. I also have been looking for decals and trans bearings. I have contacted Mayhew's and they don't have all of the decals that are needed to do my resto. My local bearing people cant get the torington bearings for the tranny. CasualObserver 3,411 #13 Posted May 9, 2008 I don't know about an outsource for the bearings (except McMaster Carr), but last time I rebuilt one, all my bearings were still available from Toro. Most aren't too bad, but a couple of those boogers are $$pricey$$... Any local shop that services Toro will be able to order them for you. (a tip... ask them to add your parts to one of their stock orders... usually they won't charge you shipping that way. May take a few extra days to get your parts, but hey... Free shipping is free shipping!!) For your decals, check with a member here... vinylguy52... You can see some of his custom work for folks in the literature and memo section of the photo gallery, he also did the RedSquare banner you see at the top of the screen! Most all of the bearings you're looking for can be picked up online, from suppliers like McMastercarr, but the inner axle bearings are gonna hurt... Wheel Horse has them for about $57 EACH! You can find them, but I'd expect them to be pretty high no matter where you go... On the powder coating, you'll probably be fine. Cast engine parts work at even higher temps than what you're talking about all the time. I'd just be careful to keep the powder out of where a bearing is "press fit" into on the transaxle. Otherwise, you'll have to grind it out to get the bearings in, and it won't be hard to egg out a hole. Then the case will leak like crazy... My $.02... catman81056 3 #16 Posted May 16, 2008 When I rebuilt the pot clutch on my D160 the bearings were $82.00 and $57.00 thru the local dealer. I found a place in California that had them and got both for $59.00 shipped to my door. They have all the bearing ya need exept one for the hydro trans ( center shaft through bearing). and wait till ya see the prices . http://www.appliedindustrial.com/ Just get the number off the side of the bearing and either call them or email, I'm lucky they have a shop close by. You can download a manual for the Sunstrand transmission ffrom Toro that has a complete parts breakdown. Hopefully a bearing distributor can cross reference the Toro numbers to their brand. nwh1-0475 0 #20 Posted May 23, 2008 I have another question. On the transmission the big ball bearing on the axle shafts, the inner bearing is it suppose to be closed on one side. If so is the outer bearing greased, because with a closed or sealed bearing there it can't get any oil to the outer bearing or is this an incorrect bearing. I think they're a specialty custom size. I've never heard of anyone finding them from another source. If you do, please let us know... bowtieguy 334 #22 Posted May 24, 2008 Dustin......you should have no problem getting all the bearing you need from IBT in KC.....they have a store in Sedalia and should have on in you neck of the woods, in Springfield MO.....IBT has a website too.....but I usually just drive to their main whse in KC and pick up what I need..... Do you have a tranny manual for your WH?.....it is good to have and gives you alot of tech stuff about tearing a tranny down and putting it back together....call me if you need more help....was good to get your call this week....maybe we can get together and talk more WH stuff......like "powder coat red".....lol.....when you are ready for another WH.....come see me and take your pick....big or little....might make you a deal......I am thinking about selling everything except a couple WHs that I really want to keep......later Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
