1967 Wheelhorse 6speed

Recommended Posts

I have a 1967 Wheelhorse 6 speed, it was my grandfathers. Today, after 9 years of not running, slapped a new battery in it. Made sure there was oil, gas. Started right up, something i can't say about my 4 year old craftsman. Let it warm up for 5 minutes, and I was mowing the lawn, just like when I was 10. (34 now). anyway, runs like a champ, however after 40 minutes of mowing, it stopped moving.. running fine though... My dad said the transmission was slipping even 9 years ago. so needless to say, i'd like to get it fixed. it mows better than the newer tractor. .. my question is this... where can I find the model # on it.. i only know this much... 1967, 6 speed, 8 hp kohler.. it was repainted god about 15 years ago, and thats peeling.. so i imagine any type of plate might be mangled... any help?? thanks, and will keep posted w/pics

(edit)... it does still have the decals intact under the newer paintjob, which says 6speed wheelhorse.

If the tag is still there, it will be riveted to the hoodstand just under the aluminum dash housing.

From what you describe, it will be stamped "T-867" with the serial number below that.

Check the woodruff keys in the rear axles / wheel hubs first - if one is sheared, the tractor won't move.

 It could be an 857, but that would be a 4-speed. Pictures would help. Glad you found us and Welcome again!

Welcome to Redsquare!

If it is an 867, it's a fairly unique machine. They were only produced in 1967, and were the only "short frame" 8 speed tractor Wheel Horse ever produced.

Sounds like you may just need a new belt, or it could be a woodruff key sheared on the axle.
