wh79d160 52 #1 Posted January 11, 2011 New to the manual tranny's. Played in the snow last nite w/417-8. wondering what speed I should be pushing snow in. Hi or Low ect. :banghead:
C-Series14 15 #2 Posted January 11, 2011 Myself, I use 3rd gear, hi range. Speed helps the snow roll off of the blade. It basically depends on what you want to do with the snow...
mavfreak 11 #3 Posted January 11, 2011 I myself go in second/hi. I just like that speed. But I use all in high 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and reverse
Tim 97 #4 Posted January 11, 2011 all of them 1st for control around cars and the house 2nd most of the time 3rd for long straight aways or knocking over piles and small amounts of snow
stevasaurus 23,285 #7 Posted January 11, 2011 It also depends on how wet and how much snow you are trying to move. Most of the snows I get in the Chicago area are on the wet side...second gear, high, usually works good for me. I like my seat time, so I will go out there before it is done and plow 4" instead of 8"...saves the horses also. I just came in from plowing 2" just before dark...expecting another 3" over night. The wife can drive out with that and I can clean up after. Be retired and plow smart. Winning combination.
rickv1957 75 #8 Posted January 12, 2011 2nd gear, high side most of the time!!!
rmaynard 16,326 #9 Posted January 12, 2011 3rd, high range, full throttle, unless I am plowing near my vehicles, then it's a lower gear so I have a little more control.

Shuboxlover 481 #12 Posted January 12, 2011 Go like a bat out of hell Tom.....that's what i do. But with your loooooooooong rock driveway, you might want to take it down a notch. Glad to see you got her hooked up and moving some material :banghead:
can whlvr 994 #14 Posted January 12, 2011 full throttle(ALWAYS)and 3rd high when possible,2nd if really wet
oldnugly 2 #15 Posted January 12, 2011 On dry snow like we have today I use 2nd/high on my C-160-8spd on my gravel drive except around vehicles. High 3rd would work but I'd be finished too soon! I need more snow or more driveway!
Daddy Don 909 #16 Posted January 12, 2011 2nh high :banghead:
dwayneGT 6 #17 Posted January 12, 2011 Second, High unless it's a long straight a way, then third High. If one of my daughters is sitting on my lap then first High! :banghead:
