sorekiwi 761 #1 Posted May 7, 2008 Somewhere I have seen some literature on a small fuel tank to go inside the 2 piece aluminum tanks on the early 60's horses. Of course I didnt save it, and now cant find it. Does this ring any bells with anyone??
Rollerman 290 #2 Posted May 7, 2008 A friend of mine & many others "WH867" has one. I'll try & get him to post some pics or add some myself. It seems like it really cut's back the tank capacity a lot too.
Buzz 502 #3 Posted May 7, 2008 Yeah it does. I'm pretty sure there is info on it in the FILES section of the main Yahoo Wheel Horse Group. I think Mike (hiredguns) put it there. I can't access the groups here at work or I'd check it out. Heres the link; http://groups.yahoo.com/group/wheelhorsegardentractors/ I understand it was kind of a crappy fix and cut the gas capacity in half. Let us know if it's there
sorekiwi 761 #4 Posted May 7, 2008 Thanks guys, the service bulletin was in the yahoo group. Yes it cuts fuel capacity to 2 quarts (from 4), and it looks like its a bit of an ugly fix. The part number for the kit doesnt bring up anything at RCPW, I'll call my local WH dealer and see what he can come up with. I do see that the origional gasket is still listed at RCPW, so maybe its worth trying that first. Anyone want to share their frustrations on sealing up one of these tanks? Actually mine didnt seem to leak, and it had at least 3 quarts of water in it!
Rollerman 290 #5 Posted May 7, 2008 I actually have a few of these tanks that will need some attention when I get back into my "winter" tractor time. Seems the screws at the base don't always want to come out & can be a pain in the @$$ to remove. I have heard Napa or similiar auto parts places have a sealer you can put in & roll around within the tank to seal them up...?
Kelly 1,033 #6 Posted May 7, 2008 take it apart and try a new gasket, but if that fails seal it with a kit for motorcycle tanks the kind you pour in and slosh around they work pretty good. it's a epoxy.

Yes there are quite a few solutions around, I'd been thinking about just doing that. That's what I used on my 854 3 years ago and it's still good. I wouldn't even see if it leaks first, I'd just do it. I used the 3 part (cleaner, etcher, sealer) from Hirsch.
Confused99 2 #9 Posted May 7, 2008 I have had good luck with with Kreme gas tank sealer on motorcycles. I don't see why it wouldn't work for you. Jason
