mavfreak 11 #1 Posted January 6, 2011 This is a '78 C161 twin 8speed with a briggs opposed 16 twin A few months ago I had a valve hang up. In that processes I found that the lateral load bearing was bad. I had tore down the engine basically fix what needed it put back together and was done. Well the main seal was not leaking prior to this so I didn't give it much thought. Now It is leaking and I have to give it some thought. I was wondering if this cane be picked out and a new one put in without have to tear down again. It looks like it can but I just would like to here from someone if this is possible
flyovrcntry 115 #2 Posted January 6, 2011 Yes you can get it out without taking the pan off. Just use something to take it out, like a punch or something.Be careful and dont gouge the crank. Then clean everything good and tap the other one in ,put a little oil on the seal first so it all slides easily.

junkman 0 #4 Posted January 12, 2011 You can also use a seal puller. they are for removing the tailshaft seal on an automatic transmission. Such as: KD Tools #KD3245 good luck :banghead:
