tmessenger 0 #1 Posted January 5, 2011 A friend of mine has offered to sell me from his collection a 1973 ish 10 8speed with the original Kohler engine. He owns a small engine repair and the tractor is nice. I have a choice of side or rear discharge mower deck, I'm thinking rear for my use. Also includes the A frame / front blade, rototiller, lead wheel weights, chains and the original owners manual . He says it uses no oil it has great rubber and is clean, $400 delivered which seems fair to me. Is there anything I need to look out for with this model before I lay down the cash ? Thanks Tim
stevasaurus 22,273 #2 Posted January 5, 2011 First... Second...from what you are saying...this would already be in my driveway. The 10 hp is a great engine and the 8 sp trans is also very good. Those attachments are probably worth the $400. Sounds like a great deal to me. And of course you know... :hide:

tmessenger 0 #4 Posted January 5, 2011 Yes thanks it sounded good to me so I'll get it and put up some pic's. I have a old Craftsmen Super 12 (Roper) that this will be replacing. I have a 4 acres lot here in Iowa and much prefer running the old iron to the new tin junk. The Super 12 is really a tough tractor but have not been able to find a blade for it in my area + this 10 8sp is really a lot nicer. Thanks for the input. rjr 0 #5 Posted January 5, 2011 If it was used to plow I would check the welds on the plate where the transmission attaches. Not a deal breaker since the repair is cheap if you disassemble everything. My FATHERS 1045 had to be re welded and re enforced. Of course that was after teenagers doing the plowing.
