linen beige 15 #7 Posted May 6, 2008 I would be leery of the hardened roll pins especially in a climate where it can get pretty cold. A good jolt against a very cold (read brittle) roll pin could crack the spindle, or even brreak through to the end and there goes your wheel. That same blow would be absorbed by a softer cotter pin. Remember, they now theorize that the rivets that held the Titanic together where inadvertantly case hardened (just like roll pins are) by the heat used to swag them in place. Mike - Karl, I put the correct front spindles on my '79 C-121 AUTOMATIC with snap rings off another parts tractor C-81 has front spindles I had to replace the ones I taken off for the C-121.
